Why this recipe is great
Do you like fresh croissants with your morning coffee? How about trying something new: a tasty croissant cookie? Yes, you heard that right! You can fill a croissant with cookie dough. Bake it in the oven and enjoy a croissant with a creamy filling inside and a crispy top crust.
The buttery croissant texture with gooey cookie dough and melted chocolate is simply irresistible!
We’ve made this recipe so often that it’s become our favorite dessert. It’s perfect for your quick dessert playlist when you have no time to bake a cake.
What’s a Crookie?
You’ve probably heard about viral crookies, right? They’re a yummy mix of croissants and cookie dough baked in the oven. TikTok and Instagram are full of folks trying this recipe, and it’s totally worth the hype. Just cut a croissant in half, stuff it with cookie dough, and bake. This makes it crispy on the outside and gooey inside.
So, where did it all start? A French baker created crookies in 2022 at a bakery in Paris. They went viral on TikTok and Instagram, and soon, the bakery was selling thousands a day. It’s an easy, delicious, and super fun dessert. If you don’t live in Paris, you can still make them at home in just 20 minutes.
All you need is croissants and cookie dough. You can make the dough yourself or buy it at the store. Cut the croissant, fill it with dough, and add a few balls on top. Bake it up! Crookies taste great, hot or cold, but they’re different. Hot ones are gooey and soft, while cold ones are crumbly and crunchy. So, what’s your favorite?
Croissant Cookie Recipe: Ingredients and Step-by-Step Method
So, how do you make croissant cookies? And what ingredients do you need for the croissant cookie recipe? Let’s dive in!
Here’s everything you need to make these tasty treats!
Ingredients:
- Croissants
For the cookie dough:
- White sugar
- Brown sugar
- Vanilla sugar
- Egg
- Salt
- All-purpose flour
- Baking powder
- Butter
- Chocolate chips
First, grab five ready-made croissants from your favorite bakery. We recommend using butter croissants for this recipe. They have a rich, buttery flavor and get crispy during baking. However, any croissant will work well for this recipe. Choose the croissants you love most. Or go for croissants you can find at your nearest bakery or grocery store.
Now, let’s talk about the second essential ingredient for this recipe—cookie dough. It’s the key to making a viral crookie! Stuff it inside the croissant, bake, and voilà—the crookie is ready! You can easily use store-bought cookie dough to stuff the croissants. And make this recipe extra convenient. Form small balls from the store-bought cookie dough. Then, flatten them before placing them inside the croissants. Next, cut the croissants in halves and place three flattened balls inside each, with three more on top. That’s it! Bake for 12 minutes at the top-bottom level in the oven at 180°C (355°F).
The second way to make viral croissant cookies is by making your own cookie dough, which is our favorite. We love making cookie dough from scratch for crookies. Homemade cookie dough is super tasty and easy to make. You just need simple ingredients like white and brown sugar, vanilla sugar, an egg, flour, butter, baking powder, chocolate chips, and a pinch of salt. Crookies with homemade dough are so delicious. It’s worth taking the time to make it yourself. Plus, it’s quicker than baking a regular cake!
So, let’s dive into the recipe! Start by measuring your white, brown, and vanilla sugar. Mix them together. Next, crack a medium egg into a bowl, add a pinch of salt, and give it a quick whisk.
Now, sift the flour and baking powder into a separate bowl. Some crumbs might stick in the sifter. Just use your fingers to press them through the sifter into the bowl. This makes sure they’re not crumbly anymore. And flour and baking powder have a smooth, airy texture without leftover crumbs.
Put soft butter in your mixing bowl—make sure you took it out of the fridge earlier so it’s nice and soft. Beat the butter on medium speed for 2 minutes. We’re using a mixer, but you can do this by hand with a whisk if you don’t mind a bit of an arm workout! Add your sugar mixture to the butter and beat for about 5 minutes until it’s all fluffy. Then, add the whisked egg and mix until everything’s smooth.
Mix the flour and baking powder into the bowl with the egg, sugar, and butter. Beat until it’s crumbly. Set aside the mixer and mix in chocolate chips with a spatula until it forms a nice ball of dough. Make small balls with your homemade cookie dough. Then flatten them for easy fitting into the croissants.
Next, take your croissants and cut them open. Fill them with the cookie dough—usually, you put three dough balls inside and three on top. Then, cover an oven tray with parchment paper and place the croissant cookies on it. If you have large croissants, you can fit around three crookies on one tray. For smaller croissants, you can fit up to five.
Pop them in the oven and bake at 180°C (355°F) for 12 minutes at the top-bottom level. Every oven is different, so keep an eye on them.
And there you have it—delicious croissants filled with gooey cookie dough. Enjoy!
How to Store Croissant Cookies
Freshly baked croissant cookies are gooey inside and crispy on top. Store them in the fridge for up to 3-4 days to keep them fresh.
Another option is to prepare the cookie dough and store it in the fridge for up to 5 days. This way, you can enjoy croissant cookies anytime. Just stuff the croissant with cookie dough and bake for 12 minutes! Freshly baked cookies without the hassle—so easy!
