Perfect pink chocolate

Equipment and Ingredients You’ll Need
Get ready to impress your friends with pink chocolate! Learn how to make it at home with two easy methods: one with natural ingredients and one with food coloring. The second method is perfect if you want to make chocolate in any color you like. Coloring chocolate isn’t always simple—lots of things can go wrong. Chocolate can turn grainy, dull, or end up with white streaks and spots. We’ll show you how to avoid all these problems and make perfect colored chocolate every time!
So, you can’t wait to make pink chocolate? Same here! Let’s dive in!
Make sure all your utensils are clean and completely dry. Even a drop of water can make the chocolate seize and become grainy. You’ll need:
Equipment
- Mold
- Pot
- Bowl
- Two spatulas
- Dry blender or a grater
Ingredients:
- White chocolate or white chocolate chips: Use white chocolate for coloring. Dark or milk chocolate won’t work. Use white chocolate coating or white chocolate chips made for baking. They melt easily, and you can add the coloring without any problems. A regular white chocolate bar often has too much sugar and a lot of additives, which is why it might not work.
- Freeze-dried strawberries (for natural coloring)
- Oil-based food coloring (for coloring with food color): Use red food coloring to make pink chocolate, or pick another color if you want a different shade.

First Method: Make Pink Chocolate with Natural Ingredients
- Use freeze-dried strawberries for natural coloring. You can buy them online. We got ours from a big online store. Search for “freeze-dried strawberries”, and you’ll find them easily.
- Grind the freeze-dried strawberries in the blender as fine as possible. If some larger pieces are left, that’s okay. They’ll add a nice texture to the chocolate.
- Finely chop the white chocolate using a knife, grater, or food processor. We use a blender grater. You can use white chocolate chips instead of white chocolate – they work perfectly for pink chocolate. And you don’t need to chop them.
- Set up a double boiler. Find a bowl that fits snugly over a pot of boiling water. But don’t let the bottom of the bowl touch the water while you melt the chocolate. Be careful with steam. Don’t let drops of water mix into the chocolate.
- Add chopped chocolate to a bowl. Bring the water to a boil (without a bowl with chocolate on top), remove a pot from heat, and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to reduce the steam.
- Now, place the bowl with chocolate over the pot. Hold it there for 10-20 seconds, then remove and stir. Repeat until the chocolate melts: place the bowl over the pot with water, wait 10-20 seconds, remove, and mix. Don’t rush! Keep the chocolate from getting too hot. It should be about body temperature. Test it with your finger. It shouldn’t feel hot. Don’t overheat the chocolate because it can lose its texture and become dull.
- When the chocolate is well melted, remove it from the double boiler. Add the ground pink strawberries and quickly mix until smooth. Mix quickly and thoroughly because the coloring can become uneven.
- Pour the chocolate into a dry mold. We use a special mold for the chocolate, but you can use any silicone mold of your choice. All forms that you can bend easily work great for pink chocolate. Don’t use a glass mold because it’s impossible to get chocolate out of it.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour.

Second Method: Make Colored Chocolate with Food Coloring
Use this method to make any colored chocolate you like. We make pink chocolate, but you can also make your chocolate red, blue, yellow, green, orange, or purple—whatever you like. Just pick the food coloring you want your chocolate to match. We use pink food coloring to make pink chocolate. Follow these steps and use the color you want!
How do you make colored chocolate?
- For pink chocolate, choose red food coloring. For other colors, just use food coloring that matches the color you want. Not all food colorings work for chocolate. Use oil-based coloring because water-based coloring makes chocolate grainy. We want to have perfectly colored chocolate. We used gel food coloring, but the ingredients didn’t contain any water. The best way to choose food coloring for chocolate is to check the description on the website when you buy food coloring. Usually, there is a list of what the food coloring can be used for. If chocolate is on this list, it’s a great choice.
- Melt the chocolate as we did before. You can also use the microwave to melt the chocolate. To heat evenly, use a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in short-second intervals on low heat to avoid overheating.
- Add a few drops of food dye and stir quickly until smooth. Mix quickly and thoroughly. If the color isn’t strong enough, add another drop. Add the food coloring little by little to avoid making the chocolate too dark.
- Pour it into a dry mold and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Let’s Check Out the Results (+Storage Tips)
Now that the chocolate is ready, let’s check out the results. We’ll also compare how the chocolate looks and tastes when colored with strawberries versus food coloring.
Chocolate colored with strawberries looks a bit grainy but has a beautiful, even color. It tastes a bit like strawberries. If you love strawberries (and who doesn’t!), you will love the combination of strawberries with white chocolate.
Chocolate with red food coloring is more even in color and tastes like regular white chocolate.

How to Store
Store pink chocolate at room temperature. You can also use it to decorate fruits. We love to make pink strawberries or even dip bananas into pink chocolate. Both taste so delicious.
Store pink chocolate treats in an airtight container. At room temperature, they stay fresh for 1-2 days. You can also use a plastic wrap.

Make Pink Chocolate—or Any Color You Like
Ingredients
- 150 g white chocolate or white chocolate chips – Stick with white chocolate coating or white chocolate chips meant for baking. They melt smoothly and make it easy to add color. Regular white chocolate bars have too much sugar and additives, so they might not melt properly
- 15 g freeze-dried strawberries for natural coloring
- or 3 drops of oil-based red food coloring for coloring with food color. Want a different color? Just use the food coloring that matches the color you want for your chocolate.
Instructions
We’ll show you two easy ways to make pink chocolate — one using natural ingredients, the other with food coloring. Check out both methods below and choose your favorite!
First Method: Use Natural Coloring to Make Pink Chocolate
- We need freeze-dried strawberries to make the chocolate pink. You can find them at many online stores. Begin by grinding 15 g of freeze-dried strawberries in a blender until they become a fine powder. If some small pieces are left, don't worry. They will add texture and flavor to the pink chocolate.*
- To make sure the chocolate doesn’t seize after coloring, it’s important to melt it correctly. Here’s how to do it. Finely chop 150 g of white chocolate into small pieces. You can use a knife, grater, or food processor. We used a blender grater. You can use either white chocolate or white chocolate chips. Both work just as well.
- To melt the chocolate, we use a double boiler method. You can also melt chocolate in the microwave. First, bring water to a boil in a pot. Then remove it from the heat and wait 2-3 minutes until the steam is almost gone. Place a bowl with the chocolate over the pot. Make sure it doesn’t touch the water. Hold it over the pot for 10-20 seconds, then remove and stir. Repeat this process until the chocolate melts. Be careful that the chocolate doesn’t get too hot. Test the temperature with your finger. It shouldn’t feel too hot.*
- Once the chocolate is melted, remove it from the double boiler.
- Quickly mix in the ground pink strawberries. Distribute evenly for a beautiful pink color.
- Pour the chocolate into a dry mold. We prefer silicone molds or any other mold that is easy to bend. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
Second Method: Make Pink Chocolate (or Any Color) with Food Coloring
- Melt the chocolate as described in the previous method. Follow steps 2–4 to make sure you melt the chocolate correctly and it doesn’t seize.
- Add 3 drops of oil-based red food dye. Pick a different color if you want to make chocolate in another color. Mix quickly and thoroughly. Avoid water-based food coloring, as it can make the chocolate grainy.*
- If the color isn’t intense enough, add another drop. But be cautious, as too much can turn the chocolate red.
- Pour the colored chocolate into a dry silicone mold and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Notes
- Make sure all kitchen utensils are clean and dry. If even a drop of water gets into the chocolate, it can become clumpy.
- Make sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Watch out for steam so no water gets into the chocolate.
- Don’t overheat the chocolate, or it can ruin the texture. Stay patient, and you’ll get beautiful, shiny pink chocolate!
- Don’t use glass mold because getting chocolate from it is very difficult.
- We used gel food coloring, which doesn’t contain water. When you buy food coloring, always check the description to see what it can be used for. If chocolate is listed, it’s a good choice.

Yes, you can change the color of chocolate — but not all types of chocolate.
The easiest chocolate to color is white chocolate because it’s a blank canvas. You can dye it almost any color you like!
Use white chocolate coating or white chocolate chips.
Melt it gently (preferably using a double boiler) before adding color.
Tip: Always use oil-based food coloring — regular water-based colors can cause the chocolate to seize.
Dark or milk chocolate already has a strong color and can’t easily be dyed into bright or pastel shades.
Yes, you can definitely dye chocolate — but it only works with white chocolate.
White chocolate takes on color easily, making it perfect for colorful treats.
How to dye chocolate:
Use white chocolate or white chocolate chips (especially coating chocolate made for melting).
Melt the chocolate gently — a double boiler works best.
Add a few drops of oil-based food coloring and mix well until the color is smooth and even.
Pour the colored chocolate into molds or use it for dipping fruits, cookies, or candies.
Tip:
Always use oil-based food coloring. Water-based colors can cause the chocolate to seize and ruin the texture.
Dyeing chocolate is easy — if you use the right ingredients.
Here’s how to do it:
Start with white chocolate — either coating chocolate or white chocolate chips work best.
Use oil-based food coloring, not water-based.
(Water-based colors can make the chocolate seize and turn grainy.)
Melt the white chocolate gently using a double boiler or microwave.
Add a few drops of oil-based food coloring to the melted chocolate.
Mix well until the color is smooth and even.
Add more coloring if needed to get a deeper, more vibrant color.
Now your colorful chocolate is ready to pour into molds, drizzle over desserts, or use for dipping!
