Garlic Bread Recipe with Sliced Bread: Step-by-Step Method
Learn how to make a delicious garlic bread recipe with sliced bread. With this simple recipe, you can enjoy the aroma of fresh garlic bread right in your kitchen. We will reveal the secret technique of making garlic bread extra crispy on both sides.
Letโs dive in!
First, grab a baguette. If you donโt have a baguette, you can use regular bread. Choose white bread, dark bread, rye, or any kind of bread you like. Take the baguette or loaf of bread and cut it into thick slices. Your bread slices should be about 1 cm (or 0.4 inches) thick. Peel a large garlic clove and slice off the end. Put a teaspoon of salt in a small bowl. Thatโs all you need for the garlic spread.
Heat a pan slightly above medium. We set our stove to 7 out of 9. This is the right temperature to make crispy garlic bread.
Pour half of the oil specified in the recipe. Olive oil or any other vegetable oil is a good choice. Place the bread in the pan and fry one side until golden brown. Flip the bread, add the rest of the oil, and move it around the pan. This way, the bread absorbs the oil and becomes soft inside and crispy outside! Fry until golden brown.
Important Tip
We add oil in two stages: first, when you put the bread in the pan, and second, when you flip it.
Why?
Because bread absorbs oil quickly. If you add all the oil at once, you wonโt have enough for the other side, and the bread will turn out too oily. So, use half of the oil to fry one side and the other half for the other side. This is a great way to get the perfect combination of soft and crispyโcrispy on both sides!
Take the bread off the pan. Rub one side of each slice of bread with the fresh garlic clove, dipping the garlic in salt as you go. The garlic bread will be slightly salty. If you love garlic, rub on more until you get enough garlic flavor. If you prefer less garlic, just rub on a little. Do this to your taste.
Next Tip
We prefer rubbing slices of bread with garlic instead of making garlic paste.
Why?
Because garlic paste has a lot of oil, which can make the bread soggy. If you want crispier garlic bread, use the rubbing method instead of the paste. This is also why we make garlic bread in a pan rather than in the oven. While placing bread on a baking sheet and baking it might seem easy, you canโt control how the oil is distributed over the bread. Using a pan allows you to add half of the oil to fry one side and the other half for the other side, as we recommended.
Thatโs it! Your garlic bread recipe with sliced bread is ready. Sprinkle with fresh herbs. Go for dill, fresh parsley, or Italian seasoningโwhatever suits your taste.
This delicious garlic bread is a perfect side dish and pairs wonderfully with mushroom soup. You can make it for dinner, lunch, or a snack if you’re just in the mood for a quick garlic toast.
Happy cooking, and enjoy!
Selecting the Right Bread: Tips and Options
You can use any type of bread for this recipe, including:
- Baguette or any loaf of French bread
- Rye bread
- Sandwich bread
- Ciabatta or any Italian bread
The best bread is the one you enjoy the most. So, you can choose the right bread for this recipe based on your preference. Of course, you can use homemade bread for your garlic breadโhomemade is always great! But using bread from the bakery section of your favorite grocery store works perfectly. And is very convenient. Since you add so much flavor during preparation, you end up with semi-homemade garlic bread. Plus, it takes much less effort and time compared to baking your own garlic bread from scratch.
How to Slice the Bread for Perfect Garlic Bread
Slice the bread into about 1 cm (or 0.4 inches) thick pieces. Avoid slicing it thinner, as the pieces will be too dry. We want crispy edges with a soft middle as we fry the bread in a pan.
Feel free to use the top of the loafโthereโs no need to waste it. If youโre just in the mood for a quick snack, you can also make a piece of garlic bread.
Fresh Garlic vs. Garlic Powder
For the best garlic bread recipe, use fresh raw garlic. Garlic powder wonโt work here. Some recipes call for a garlic-butter mixture. But we prefer toasting the bread in oil and then rubbing it with garlic. Itโs quicker than baking and doesnโt require any extra preparation. And who doesnโt love easy recipes?
Choosing the Right Oil
Use vegetable oil for a garlic bread recipe with sliced bread cooked in a pan. Olive oil or any other oil will work well. Mix butter with minced garlic and herbs if you plan to bake the bread in the oven. Softened butter helps blend the ingredients better. For the best flavor, we recommend using real butter instead of margarine. We also prefer unsalted butter and adjust the salt and spices to our taste.
Oven, Grill, or Pan: Where to Bake Your Garlic Bread
You can bake garlic bread in the oven, on a grill, or in a pan:
- Oven: Place the sliced bread on baking paper. Brush with soft butter and minced garlic, then bake until golden brown.
- Grill: Slice the bread into big pieces and grill them on both sides.
- Pan: Fry the bread slices on both sides in vegetable oil. Once done, rub the slices with a cut garlic clove dipped in salt. This method is one of the easiest and quickest for making garlic bread. You can easily adjust the saltiness and garlic amount.
Best Way to Store Garlicky Bread
Garlicky bread doesnโt spoil quickly, so you can store it at room temperature for up to 5 days. However, garlicky bread has a strong smell, so avoid using aluminum foil or plastic wrap. The best way to store it is in a tightly sealed, airtight container. Make-Ahead Tip: Prepare garlic bread in advance for your next family dinner. Make a batch and store it for later use. Pair it with a pot of spaghetti, and you have a meal that even picky eaters will love!
From Pasta to Pie: Best Recipes to Serve with Garlic Bread
Garlic bread is a fantastic addition to any dinner table. If youโre planning a pasta night, prepare a hearty serving of spaghetti with tomato sauce. Sprinkle with plenty of Parmesan cheese, and let the cheese melt and blend with the fresh, tangy, and sweet tomato sauce. Add garlic bread pieces, and youโve got a family favorite combo.
If you prefer a creamy dish, try pasta with spinach and ricotta. Itโs quick and easyโno food processor needed! Simple dishes like this make the best dinners.Looking for something other than pasta? Notes
*You can use any bread you like; weโre using a baguette. Both white and dark bread work well.
*We add half of the oil when we fry one side and the other half for the other side. Bread absorbs oil so quickly that if you add it at once, one side will soak it up, leaving none for the other side. Add half of the oil for one side and half for the other to ensure both sides get crispy and evenly distributed.
*This garlic bread tastes great with any soup or as a snack with beer. Beer lovers, take note!
